Araceae

The Araceae trail is a place for people who appreciate nature. Wooden benches placed along the 38-yard path allow visitors to rest and talk in the midst of the forest. The gravel floor enables access to the elderly, wheelchair users, and people with mobility difficulties.

All the species along the trail have been identified by botanists. Scientific names, and in some cases popular names as well, are written in plaques, enriching the visitor’s experience.

With 104 genera and approximately 3.500 species, the araceae are among the most important ornamental foliage. Since the vast majority of these plants is toxic, edible species must be cooked or processed.

The excessive gathering of araceae for commercial purposes and the destruction of their natural habitats are a few of the causes of the extinction of some species, as they do not grow well in second-growth regeneration or in open areas.
